On 19 June, Associate Minister of Education, Nikki Haye, announced in a press release the fourteen members of the 21st Century Learning Reference Group. Derek Wenmoth, Director of CORE Education, was among the selection of proven leaders in technology and education.
"Specific roles have yet to be determined, but the group will focus on the implementation of recommendations made in the select committee report on 21st century learning environments and digital literacy, which CORE made a substantial submission to", says Derek.
The report, which investigated the best possible options for teaching spaces, timing of learning, technological infrastructure, UFB, and collaboration and distance learning, can be viewed on the New Zealand Parliament website.
Derek is optimistic about the impact the Group will have: "With the support of cabinet, there is a strong mandate for making the report's recommendations a reality. Time will tell, but it will be a great opportunity to have input into shaping the future of education in New Zealand".
