Shannon has previously worked in a support role within the Māori Medium and Pasifika teams since joining CORE Education in 2011. Her contribution across CORE has nurtured her growth, knowledge and understanding of technology, design, te reo Māori and Pasifika education. Her success in these areas has enabled her to tackle her current role as part of the Te Arareo Māori team.
Shannon enjoys working with, and is inspired by, her colleagues who are passionate about empowering all learners to reach their full potential. She looks forward to growing and developing her skills further to provide quality learning support and experiences for kaiako and ākonga to excel.
Having grown up a Pākehā-Samoan, and now on a journey to discover my Ngāti Tūwharetoa roots, I naturally LOVE all things cultural. I often retreat to the family dairy farm in Dannevirke to recharge my batteries but Naenae has been and is home for my whānāu and I.
I am deeply passionate about supporting our tamariki to find harmony within themselves, where tikanga Māori, Tokelauan, Samoan and ‘Kiwi’ are a normal part of their lives as they find their feet in our multicultural world.
‘He tina ki runga, he tāmore ki raro’
