Jo works with schools throughout New Zealand, specialising in the area of school self-review, strategic planning, future-focused development, community consultation, appraisal, governance and management.
As an experienced educational leader, Jo is particularly interested in the way schools learn, the language of learning and the strategies that educators can utilise, to engage teachers and students in rich learning opportunities and experiences that make learning authentic and meaningful for them.
Jo believes that we are living in an exciting time of ‘change’ and that as educators we need to understand the theory of change, and know how to apply this, to ensure that we are creating learning communities that will prepare our teachers and students for the future. By identifying the essential dispositions, competencies and skills that teachers and students will need for transferring and creating new learning, we can prepare them for a future of change.
CORE Education has recently undertaken several contracts with New Zealand School Trustees Association. Jo has led the projects associated with the development of NZSTA Governance Internal Evaluation tool.
In addition to her consultancy work with schools, Jo has been the project leader for several Ministry of Education projects including ICT PD Project (2010), Blended e-Leading (2011), Development of Hautū: Māori Cultural Responsiveness Self Review tool for Boards of Trustees (2013), Review of Vocational Pathways (2014–2015).

- identify goals, develop strategic plans and implement programmes of learning, to ensure sustainable future focussed school improvement
- translate current research and theory into practice - supporting the strengthening of evidence gathering practices, critical data analysis and evaluation skills to measure impact.

- lead change and build capability
- develop and enact their collective vision and values
- to guide the design of learning programmes and learning spaces identifying clear expectations, principles and non-negotiables

- ensuring all participants have a voice and ownership of the process
- support as a critical friend, coach and/or mentor.

I enjoy the simple pleasures of life – new challenges, meeting new people, friends and being together as a family. I live in Hamilton with my husband Pete and we are gradually adjusting to our empty nest. My key interests are design, gardening, travel, art, horse racing and reading.
