Jane has been working in early childhood and teacher education for almost 30 years. Beginning in Playcentre, she has worked in a range of early childhood settings including home-based education and kindergarten. Jane has also worked in policy at the Ministry of Education at both regional and national levels, including curriculum policy and policy implementation. A large part of her career however, has been in teacher education, teaching at both the Dunedin College of Education and the University of Waikato. Of particular significance is her role of Director Education for Te Rito Maioha Early Childhood where she had responsibility for the development and delivery of a range of early childhood teacher education programmes, both undergraduate and graduate.
Jane is committed to upholding Te Tiriti o Waitangi and has actively worked to grow and develop her own and others’ understanding of Aotearoa’s foundation document as well as implementing policies and practices which support the inherent partnership.
Most recently, Jane has been actively involved in the 2017 revision of Te Whāriki, including the review of consultation feedback, the development of web-based content and the roll-out of the document to the early childhood sector as CORE’s Curriculum Advisor. Alongside her work for CORE, Jane is currently a doctoral researcher exploring early childhood teacher beliefs about what it takes to be a good early childhood teacher.
