Overview:

The Cultural Understanding EDtour provides the opportunity for educators to visit a range of New Zealand Māori immersion, bi-lingual classes and English medium schools. You will observe and experience examples of teaching and learning practice that responds to the cultural pedagogies which improve learning for all students in the 21st century.

CORE Education is able to fully tailor an itinerary to suit the exact needs of educators, according to the educational focus, style of travel, budget and individual requirements of the traveller.

Who should participate?

Educators in all sectors of the education system within NZ or abroad, including; government officials, principals, senior leaders, teachers and boards of trustees members.

Timing:

CORE can offer a range of tours, which traditionally vary in length from 2 days to 1 week.
Programmes can be arranged at a time to suit the group and fits into the NZ school year (February to November).

Tours in October can be co-ordinated so that attendees can also arrange to attend one of CORE’s educational practitioner conferences:

Cultural Understanding Tours focus on:

  • Māori tikanga and protocols (including powhiri)
  • Māori language as a vehicle for learning
  • Marae visit or stay
  • Māori values that underpin Māori school curriculum
  • Māori history including The Treaty of Waitangi
  • Māori educational aspirations including Māori student achievement
  • Visiting a number of Māori immersions settings across all sectors from early years to tertiary

CORE is also able to assist with personal travel arrangements to enable educators to spend time experiencing the New Zealand and its attractions.
