What might an eco-friendly, learner-centred conference, focused on the future of education look like?
The #edchatNZ conference 2016 held 12-13 August at the inspiring Rototuna Junior High School in Hamilton, is an event designed by and for educational explorers. 150 educators from across New Zealand came together at this conference to “find their tribe”, connect, collaborate and get curious about what’s next for education.
In addition to hands-on workshops and provocative keynotes, delegates were grouped into learning tribes, and were challenged to bring their crunchy questions and collective wisdom to design and pitch ‘Possibility Projects’.
CORE provided support and guidance to the #edchatNZ conference Tribe Mentors through webinars and facilitation. All Tribe Mentors have joined the uChoose online community where they can participate in ongoing discussions and mentoring.
What is an unconventional conference such as #edchatNZ like? Many attendees reported that the most valuable thing for them were the connections and conversations, “meeting people and being provoked into thought”. Delegates expressed their desire to attend a future #edchatNZ conference, so keep an eye out for a possible new iteration of the conference experience in 2018!
