Professional experience

For the past five years Jess has worked for CORE Education in a variety of spaces including the Learning with Digital Technologies team, the Connected Learning Advisory and most recently in the Kia Takatū ā-Matihiko programme. She has extensive experience around implementing Digital Technologies authentically into classroom programmes and strengthening local curriculum in this area. She has worked with schools to help them reinforce school-community relationships and share learning with wider audiences.

Jess has a passion for exploring ways to make learning authentic and exciting for our tamariki and builds on the knowledge and skills that already exist in schools. She believes in children driving their own learning and finding solutions to authentic needs in their communities.

After completing her teaching diploma at The New Zealand Graduate School of Education, Jess taught in London for just over two years. She returned to Christchurch and has held a number of positions in schools where she developed a passion for exploring ways to implement and teach digital fluency. Jess has a passion for e-learning and finding ways to engage students, and she is continually finding new and innovative ways to promote best pedagogy. She is experienced in leading and supporting teachers through teaching as inquiry.

Personal statement

I am particularly passionate about digital technologies and finding new and innovative ways to promote best pedagogy. I love helping teachers and children celebrate taking risks in this area. I am constantly looking for ways to show children how their learning can have an impact on their communities, whānau and world. I have a passion for innovative practice, and finding ways to get children motivated to become digital creators rather than users.

Over the past few years I have been developing my skills in finding ways to implement computational thinking and developing and designing digital outcomes in authentic ways to promote engagement and success for tamariki. I am excited about the continually changing and evolving possibilities this area has to offer.
