About the role

An opportunity is now available for a LAMP Stack Web Developer with a passion for mentoring development teams to join our Open source Web Development Team.  The preferred candidates will have 7+ Years of Experience in working with the LAMP Stack preferably in Silverstripe and/or Laravel.  This role reports to the IT Manager.

CORE Education’s IT Team is a progressive small team based in Christchurch with exciting internal and customer focused projects.  The successful candidates will have the opportunity to develop, lead and mentor with AWS, AI, BI, Laravel, Silverstripe, eCommerce and web design using an established build, test and release process.

Some key areas of responsibility will include:

  • Under supervision of the IT Manager, plan, develop, test, document and maintain web based applications and sites for internal and external projects

  • Mentor development staff in development processes, design, UI and use of code.

  • Commitment to the Treaty of Waitangi, working in partnership and Te Aho Tapu

  • Commitment to modelling principles of Tātai Aho Rau and CORE’s values - manaakitanga, whānaungatanga, wairuatanga and kaitiakitanga

 Skills and Experience:         

  • 7 or more years of industry experience

    • Open source LAMP Stack is required

    • Content Management Systems, Silverstripe & Laravel is required

  • A natural tendency to share, teach and guide others in the art of software development

  • Tertiary qualification in Information Systems or Computer Science is preferred

  • A passion for web application development, and a willingness to learn other platforms if required

  • Awareness and knowledge of web accessibility/usability issues

  • Experience in GIT and Vagrant are preferred

  • Experience in vue.js and React preferred

  • Proactive with clear ability to work on own initiative and as part of project teams

  • Commitment to high level of professionalism and ongoing personal development

  • A knowledge of web applications in an educational context, e.g. e-Learning platforms, an advantage but not essential

  • Good understanding of both written and spoken English is essential

  • Ability to be able to work independently and as part of the team

  • The ability to work in a culturally responsive manner is a requirement. Knowledge of te reo Māori is desirable. The successful applicant will work within the company’s framework –Tātai Aho Rau.
