Hearing from diverse Waitaha voices
This webinar was held on 14 June 2022 and focused on thinking and planning the implementation of the Relationships and Sexuality Education guides from the Ministry of Education.
The guides have been designed to ensure learning about relationships and sexuality is not left to chance.
It brought together diverse voices and insights from Waitaha (Canterbury) across three communities: Māori, Samoan, and rainbow.
Consideration was given to working with the guides in a meaningful way, and creating actionable outcomes. Participants were given the opportunity to ask questions of the following presenters, and Ministry representatives, and to consider what the guidelines might mean in their learning community.
Perspectives on Relationships and Sexuality education were provided by:
- Maire Kipa, Health advocate, Kahukura Pounamu
- Jeremy Faumuinā, NZ Police, Moana Vā
- Rose Cook, InsideOUT
- Kathryn O’Connell-Sutherland, Te Mahau
- Lex Davis, CORE Education
