Abstract writing tips
Keep your abstract easy to understand and attractive to an audience.
Avoid jargon and overly academic language.
Keep content straightforward, including reference to products or tools.
Be inclusive with your language. For example, say ‘learning environment’ rather than ‘schools’.
Word count: no more than 250 words (up to 1500 characters).
Title: a meaningful and succinct title is key. It should describe the proposed session in 8 words or less. Include keywords that reflect the content and capture delegates’ attention.
Introduction: state the focus in one sentence.
Body: in 3-5 sentences, explain why delegates should attend and what they will learn.
While learning outcomes are specified separately, an abstract should clearly outline what participants will learn or take away with them, to apply in their spaces.
Link your breakout to the uLearn21 theme and sub-themes where possible. This will help the programme committee decide if your abstract is a good fit for this year’s conference.
The abstract submission portal includes fields for you to specify the target audience, presentation language, any required software etc. Consider these before writing your abstract, however they do not necessarily need to be included in the abstract description.
Please be aware that workshops and presentations must:
Be interactive and participatory, allowing for communication between presenters and delegates.
Be practical in modelling innovative teaching and learning strategies and technologies that support the conference themes.
Provide learning environment-based examples that relate to the range of educational settings that exist within our communities (eg. large, small, urban, rural, early years, primary, secondary etc). Student work examples should be considered.
If your submission is accepted, we will send guidelines to help you with delivering a successful presentation.
Successful presenters will be sent a special presenter registration link for uLearn21. Please do not register via the link on CORE’s website.
