The digital and technology world has grown exponentially and the innovative and creative strands of our DNA as Māori are adapting and thriving too as we seek and test new ways to unleash learning for our tamariki and rangatahi. Our experiences in 2020 with COVID-19 highlighted the innovation of local and community responses through the use of digital technology to maintain learning and connection. That said, there is more we can do to ensure our tamariki, rangatahi and their whānau can maximise the use of digital technology into the future.
Hangarau matihiko is a key component of learning for tamariki and rangatahi. In addition to the physical tools and resources, hangarau matihiko fosters critical thinking skills and competencies that complement the enhanced capacity and potential of bilingual and second language learners.
