Leadership through a Pacific lens

Join Maria Lemalie, Tumuaki | Principal of Te Aratai College, and Lena Tuiloma as they kōrero about Maria’s journeys and experiences, how she approaches leadership, and what advice she would give to both pacific and non-pacific leaders.

Maria speaks about her background including her parents’ migration from Samoa to Aotearoa New Zealand, their sacrifices, mahi, and encouragement to ensure she valued education. Maria and Lena also discuss how Samoan cultural values influence Maria’s leadership style and work ethic.

Maria offers her advice to Pacific leaders, including asking the question “how are you growing and inspiring other leaders?”. Lena and Maria also discuss the importance of allyship and partnership from non-Pacific leaders in their roles to ensure they open doors for others.
