Developing 21st Century Skills

The implementation of the revised NZ Curriculum will almost certainly have an impact on what happens with ICTs in schools—in particular, we’re likely to see a re-emergence of lists of ‘competencies’ for ICTs (focus likely to be initially on ICT literacy/ies).

It is likely that we’ll see tensions emerge again among those who regard teaching ICT skills as important, and those who see the use of ICTs across all areas of the curriculum as a priority. The lack of technically skilled graduates from high school will drive demand for a ‘computing curriculum’.
